Atlanta Gift Market

January 14, 2008

I got back late last night from an exhausting day at the huge gift trade show at AmericasMart in Atlanta. The good news is that we saw some great things from companies who didn’t have huge minimum orders (I’m still in shock over this). The Valentine’s Day gifts should be arriving soon and after that we’ve got some great gardening, Easter, Mother’s Day, and beach items planned. So if you need a gift please consider Fiction Addiction!

Cyber Book Monday

December 10, 2007

I don’t know about other bookstores, but today seems to be Cyber Monday for me. The online orders that have pored in since close of business Saturday are going to leave the poor mailman with 3 tubs to pick up instead of the usual 1. I guess everyone figures that today is pretty much the last day for ordering Media Mail shipping. After today, you’ll have to shell out for Priority Mail to ensure that your gift will arrive in time.

Holiday Shopping Services

November 29, 2007

We’re pleased to offer our customers free gift wrapping this holiday season. Please just ask for your gift wrapping as you check out. If the store is extremely busy, we may ask if you mind returning for your gift-wrapped parcels the next day.

We would also love to help you pick out the perfect gift for anyone on your list. Just tell us a little bit about the person and we’ll give you several suggestions to consider.

Support America Unchained! on Nov. 17th

October 29, 2007

On November 17th, the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving, many communities around the country will be urging residents to shop at locally-owned, independent businesses (such as Fiction Addiction) for the day.

This movement, called America Unchained!, is sponsored by the American Independent Business Alliance (AMIBA). According to AMIBA, shopping at local independents circulates your money in your local economy 3.5 times longer than if you shop at a chain, generating greater community health and prosperity.

Greenville has its own Indepent Business Alliance, GIBA, which I’m planning to join.

Greenville Friends of the Library Sale

October 26, 2007

The Greenville Friends of the Library is having a booksale this weekend in the Merovan Center at 1200 Woodruff Rd, Ste E-2 (across from Kohl’s). The hours are:

Friday, 3-8pm (members only; membership can be purchased at the door)
Saturday, 10am-5pm
Sunday, 1-5pm (everything that’s left is half-price)

Cash and checks only. For more info about the sale, call 242-5000 ext 2291.

I will be at the sale Friday afternoon looking for books to re-stock the store and my mom who volunteers for them will be working the sale.  Since that means neither of our regular staff will be at the shop we will not be processing trade-ins Friday afternoon, but you are welcome to leave them for me to look at on Saturday. I’ve coerced my brother into manning the counter at the shop, so please be patient with him if he runs into problems operating the computer  :)

Publicity Photos

October 12, 2007

Jill HendrixIn an earlier post about The New Rules of Marketing and PR by David Meerman Scott, I vowed to finally get off my duff and get some publicity photos taken for the store. Well, I just got the scans back from the photographer and I think they turned out great.

I had this photo of me made so that online visitors to this blog will be able to picture the woman behind the words. To see the rest of the photos from the shoot, check out our store photos page and see what you think.

If you ever have need for a commercial photographer, I highly recommend Ken Pitts of Ken Pitts Studio in Asheville, NC. I’m usually very photophobic, but Ken was able to put me at ease and after 6 years in business, I finally have an offical headshot!
